1. a screenshot of how your current mss depicting the navigation you described would greatly help in addressing your problem Wendy..
2. in my experience, I noticed that even a purely 'technical' upgrade on the ess/mss front would involve a lot of 'change' and as such needs to be addressed via change & training management in a project
3. in the technical upgrades I have done on ess/mss front, I usually advise the client to go for the latest offerings that have the same functionality as the older version, but would recommend training to address the end-user experience in the look and feel deparment as this varies significantly,..
4. that approach has a couple of advantages : the way the iview works is the same, so, change is managed only on the look and feel front for one, and then should you go down the path of a 'functional' upgrade in the future, managing change would be a little easier ...
